Digital Detox
God’s word has an abundance of knowledge and wisdom on the ways that will bring us true joy and life. And they are all found in walking with Christ and not the world. I challenge you to do some self-reflection by reading God’s word and I promise you will see your life more clearly.
This may seem like a dauting task, so start with a short devotional and/or Bible verse. Pray that God will give you focus before reading it and clarity of it’s meaning as you lay down your own understanding and allow God to open up His abundant wisdom to you.
A simple prayer like this: Lord, help me to focus on You alone. Help me to cut things out of my life that are leading to constant dissatisfaction and a drainage of purpose. Give me your wisdom as I spend time with You. Amen.
Action: Spend one whole day away from social media, news, and Netflix. Spend that time (on and off) in prayer and reading God’s word, doing devotionals, taking a walk and thanking Him for His creation as you observe it; or journal your thoughts as they focus on God. Maybe write down questions you have for Him for prayer time. Or praises as you see life because you aren’t starring into a screen. Perhaps you’ll want to write a letter to God or random thoughts to God as you pray and speak with Him during the day.
I’ll leave you this quote that really can really help when trying to let go of worldly concerns:
“Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose.”- C. S. Lewis.
In other words, happiness is like a fleeting shadow, it is to be chased and steals your energy. Spend time being content with what you have, that is the true source of joy. Have joy in all circumstances, knowing that God can use anything for His good and He allows us the consequences of our poor choices knowing when we get emptied of our pride; He is the only source of true hope that brings joy.
Watch how much more joyful you’ll become as you let go of the distractions of this world and focus on His truth and wisdom!
