Just Dance

According to WebMd August2nd, 202, “ Dancing is a whole-body workout that's actually fun. It's good for your heart, it makes you stronger, and it can help with balance and coordination. A 30-minute dance class burns between 130 and 250 calories, about the same as jogging.”

You don’t need to know how to dance to have fun.  Simply put on some music and move!  Twitch and Allison Holker teamed up with the American Heart Association during the Covid 19 to bring in home FUN and easy dance workouts into the home.

One of their kids is even sitting on the coach in the background for this one! SO cute!

Twitch and Allison’s living room dance sessions are full of energy and can be done at home without any dance experience.  They make it fun and repeat the steps over and over to make you feel comfortable even if you don’t dance.  Allison is a mom to 3 kids, so she knows how busy mom’s need something to do that’s fun at home.  Kids can even join in the fun.  Nothing raunchy and the music’s lyrics are clean.  Here’s an example of 1 of their super fun dance workouts!

Pop sugar has a fun cardio dance workout.  It’s called a “plyojam” workout.  It incorporates old school moves like a grapevine and new hip hop moves like a body roll into a fun workout.  Modifications are made by girls in the back to fit most fitness levels. Use the link below to try an organized dance routine if you need help thinking of moves.  It’s about 30 minutes in length.  Do 10 minutes at a time for a Gimmie 10! or to build endurance if the full 30 is too long.  This video is GREAT because it incorporates a diverse set of instructors into the video!  You do NOT need to be a size 2 to have fun and dance!

Here’s another video from Stacie, Erika and Catherine.  She brings a great Boy Band dance routine!  It starts with Bye, Bye, Bye and some sexy shoulder rolls to loosen up the shoulders.  Stacie has great energy and shows that you don’t need to be a size nothing to dance!  Go girl!  She incorporates some old school aerobic step box steps and hip hop hip rolls into this fun 30 minute workout.

For a harder plyojam workout, check out this “Black Widow” jam.  If you can’t do the moves (like me) just move and have fun watching them; and dance like nobodies watching!  Enjoy yourself!

ZUMBA has also been a popular way to incorporate dance into a workout.  ZUMBA typically uses Latin dance moves to give you a great cardio workout.  You can also do ZUMBA Gold workouts that are a bit more joint friendly.  If you’re like me with a knee disability, these workouts incorporate a lot of pivots and moves I cannot safely do.  Modify the workout to your level or make up your own moves.  It’s fun and inspiring for any fitness level – if you love Latin music like I do!

No matter what your comfort level is, these can be a a great plan B if you cannot get outside, or you want to spice up your workout. I invite you to give it a try!
